The Old Trout Is Back! 

There will be a fishy smell around Fairford this April and it will be welcomed by the town’s hotel - The Bull.

 

April is the start of the trout season and Bull manager Ian Summers intends to celebrate the much maligned fish by putting it on his menu, hosting an open fishing day as well as a black tie Trout Ball at the end of the season in October.

 

The Bull Hotel has an island in its ground, aptly named Bull Island, perfect for casting your line to catch the delights of the River Coln.

 

FREE Flying Fishing Day

The Fly Fishing Open Day will be held on Saturday the 24th of May and will be hosted by The Bull Hotels resident fishing expert - Jim Williams.

 

The day will include a fishing master class as well as the opportunity to pick Jim’s brain and infinite fishing knowledge. The day is open to the novice and the expert alike.

 

 

The river is a big attraction for the Gloucestershire hotel and is often booked up just by keen fly fishermen.

 

“For 50 weeks of the year we have people come from all over the country and the world to visit this special place so why not celebrate this with a bit of a bash,” Ian said.

 

“Trout is not always seen as the fish of choice for a dinner plate and is often overlooked for more popular river fish like salmon and bream. I want to show how versatile it can be as an ingredient. Cooked right it is delicious," he added.

 

The Ball will be held on Saturday the 18th of October.
